I’m sure I’ve posted about Black Milk Clothing before, and if I haven’t WHAT’s been wrong with me?! They make truly epic tights; jackets; dresses and so on. Of course I wouldn’t wear this stuff myself ;p But had I a significant other (or even a sort of casual, insignificant other) I’d certainly be making her some knock-offs of some of this stuff
Sorry jL, but you know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery haha Actually, more likely I’d do something inspired by his stuff. You know me, I’m not fond of direct copying anything.

Anyway, I subscribe to the Black Milk blog (Too Many Tights) and while I love pretty much everything I see there, this jacket particularly spiked my interest (oops no pun intended). I really dig it from both an aesthetic and technical point of view. Just look at those impressively sculptural shoulders! I imagine getting those to sit right was quite a bit of fun ;D
My only gripe about the whole thing is that vinyl look. I always find it reminds me of black plastic rubbish bags ;( And I don’t like the way it wrinkles, and you get those intense specular highlights. I’m not sure quite what it is, but something about this kind of fabric always makes it look thin and tacky to me. Personally I’d prefer if it were made from leather, maybe even something with a texture in it, black crocodile or snake skin perhaps? Black milk snake anyone? Ah well, no perhaps not, it’s probably protected or something, but maybe it could be simulated in pressed leather.
There’s just something solid and structural about leather, and the stretch and drape of it is, to my mind, so much better than any man made alternative.
But! Having said all this however, I have to spell out that I don’t mean to put the jacket or Black Milk Clothing down in any way, far from it! And of course leather probably wouldn’t have given Mr. Lillis, the designer, that ultra shiny surface with it’s hard highlights, which I’m guessing is exactly what he was going for. Each to his own I say. After all, that is what makes fashion and art so exciting, the variety of it all:)
You should definitely check out the Too Many Tights Blog (Black Milk Clothing’s Blog) and there’s also now a Black Milk facebook page. Worth a look, he’s a genius; his clothes are really cool; and his models to die for
bye for now,
