I long for a shoe that marries the classic refinement and style of the traditional men’s leather shoe with the comfort and support of the modern casual ‘sneaker’ or sport-shoe. I love the look of a good leather shoe, from grungy, rock-and-roll ‘winkle-pickers’ to the refined and understated classic oxford. But I do find, and maybe this is just because I’ve never spent enough on a truly quality pair, that they tend to be very ‘hard’. That is to say, there really isn’t much cushioning in the shoe, and so I find walking in such shoes somewhat uncomfortable for any prolonged period of time.
Of course, this most likely has been addressed before, and I simply haven’t come across it (or indeed looked particularly hard), but I thought it worth a ponder. Some day I’d love to make my own shoes, if I ever get around to making/getting some lasts.
