Is this my Autumn/Winter Look?

I was bored today so I decided to throw on some variations of my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Some of these things I haven’t plucked up the courage to wear out yet, but perhaps I shall. Just a bit of mildly comedic fun really.

Thoughts; suggestions? Let me know.

Until next time,

Slightly Dark Polymer Clay jewelry

Ok, I may have posted some pics of these before, can’t remember now. But I decided I’d take some new pictures with my webcam, try and show the rings a bit clearer. I’m not sure how successful I’ve been there, but oh well. But the animations were kinda fun to do.

Just some Polymer Clay jewelry I’ve done over the last year, 2010 that is. Except for the eye ring which is a teddy eye; white leather; and elastic, I should really make some more of those.

I quite like rings, I’m not sure why exactly, maybe it’s that Rockstar thing? I’m not entirely sure what ‘that Rockstar thing’ might be either, but there’s something about lots of chunky, vaguely sinister jewelry that just screams Rockstar. Kinda like Johnny Depp’s ‘rockstar pirate’, Jack Sparrow look.

Personally I don’t think I’ve got the guts to pull it off, and maybe not the right attitude or total image. I do wear rings, but generally just one or two, maybe with a wrist band of some sort. The trick, I think, is to keep it a bit hard edged, ballence anything slightly effeminate with something dark; heavy; or spiky, something masculine. Take the beads for example, I’d never wear them without something like the teeth wristband (polymer clay again by the way).  I’ll be the first to say that the beads by themselves, even if they are black/gray, do look a bit sissy, but with the teeth they become just a bit of eclectic, slightly tribal ‘stuff’, part of a bigger, edgier composite.

That’s the idea anyway haha 😉

Well that’s all for now chaps (and dear girls),

Untill next time,

xx

Bibian Blue. Oh what wonderous thing is this?!

Check this out, Bibian Blue. They seem to do this amazingly eclectic combination of Victorianesque/Steampunky; slightly risque Burlesque’ish; sort of Gothic wonderfulness.

Aren’t they amazing? Just lovely 😉 But go and have a browse through for yourself, there’s lots of other stuff, different styles and moods. Unfortunately it is all in French (I think?), oh no wait, Spanish? But the pictures speak for themselves wouldn’t you agree? 😀

Incidentally I found Bibian Blue via Haut Macabre blog, also worth checking out 😀

Until next time, Au revoir mes chéris

I want a ‘Tennant’ coat for winter!

Just a quick vector sketch of a Doctor Who (Tennant) inspired coat I’d really like to make. I’d probably use a slightly less patterned fabric, use a tweed with less definite weave. Or perhaps a more continuous, linear weave, maybe a low contrast diagonal striped twill, or herringbone stripes. Anyway, you get the idea. Oh! I just realized I forgot to draw the buttons, oops! ;D

Until next time my friends,

I must say, the Doctor doesn’t half have style!

Just a little something I did while I was bored. Inspired by my friend Katie’s profile pic and by the ‘A Hard Days Night’ album cover of course. I love this kind of retro, perhaps slightly ‘lomography’ style of photo / photo series. I’ve been playing with the idea of a hypothetical ‘Dr. Who’ (the old one’s I mean) inspired fashion collection, especially the whole long scarf thing. I can’t remember which doctor it was now, but I’m sure someone will know what I mean :p So this is a sort of Gothic; grunge; doctor mash up. Oh the pretentiousness!

Anyway, speaking of the Doctor, I’ve been watching Dr. Who lately. Sort of marathoning through it. I took a little while to take to it, something to do with the cheesy plot etc and I didn’t exactly like Christopher Eccleston. I’m not sure why, but oh well, I got used to him and started to really enjoy the show. Actually I didn’t like Billy Piper to begin with either. But then came David Tennant! Now maybe you like him, maybe you don’t (personally I think he’s great), but the costume! Oh his costumes are wonderful 😀 I just love that long overcoat. What do you think, tweed? Whatever, it’s cool. I love how it’s both kinda sweeping; imposing; mysterious; monster kicking hero and yet refined and wonderfully British 😉 We all know how much I love things that are British. I also really like how his nice suits and the aforementioned beautiful coat are toned down and made a little… grunge, by just the simple addition of Chucks (or whatever brand of similar Canvas Sneekers they might be). I read somewhere, wish I could remember where, that he got the idea from Jamie Oliver haha!

Also, having mentioned, nay confessed to my Anglophilia, here’s a couple of things I came across lately. Just LOVE stuff with Union Flags on it :p

Hurray I fixed my connection!

My network/internet connection has been buggy for about a year. It been slowly getting worse until yesterday I struggled to just log in to Word Press ;(

So today, I’d decided that my mother must have pushed some heavy piece of rubbish, perhaps some shelves or something onto my cable and damaged it, a horrifically plausible explanation. So, with much grumbling and barely suppressed frustration/annoyance, I resigned myself to trying to fix it when I could get around going to the shops and getting a new plug and maybe some more either-net cable if I couldn’t find some lying around or selvage atleast part of the existing one.

However, I thought I should probably check to see if I could make it work with another cable, even though I was pretty certain that was the problem. Oh NO! That didn’t work either, and neither did the next one I tried (in another port of the router as well). So this left me with the realization, and accompanying sinking feeling, that there was probably something wrong with the hardware in my laptop. Unlikely to be easily or cheaply fixed.

Imagine my joy and elation on finding out, after a quick web search (that I wish I’d bothered to do about a year ago ;D ) that sometimes the connection can drop due to the network speed auto detect function not working properly, or the computer and router trying to auto detect at the same time!

Ok so, all I had to do is manually adjust the settings for my network card 😀 Set the ‘Media’ type (connection speed) to “10Mbps Full Duplex” (full duplex meaning that data can travel in both directions at once, duplex coming from the same root word as dual I guess) and wam zap wonderbar! it works better than it has in AGES! YAY!

I did try 100Mbps, but that didn’t seem to work for some reason. I’m pretty sure I should be able to run my eithernet network at that speed, but oh well ;(

Still, it works, and that’s the main thing.

Wooo now that’s a Sharp looking jacket!

I’m sure I’ve posted about Black Milk Clothing before, and if I haven’t WHAT’s been wrong with me?! They make truly epic tights; jackets; dresses and so on. Of course I wouldn’t wear this stuff myself ;p But had I a significant other (or even a sort of casual, insignificant other) I’d certainly be making her some knock-offs of some of this stuff 😉 Sorry jL, but you know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery haha Actually, more likely I’d do something inspired by his stuff. You know me, I’m not fond of direct copying anything.

Anyway, I subscribe to the Black Milk blog (Too Many Tights) and while I love pretty much everything I see there, this jacket particularly spiked my interest (oops no pun intended). I really dig it from both an aesthetic and technical point of view. Just look at those impressively sculptural shoulders! I imagine getting those to sit right was quite a bit of fun ;D

My only gripe about the whole thing is that vinyl look. I always find it reminds me of black plastic rubbish bags ;( And I don’t like the way it wrinkles, and you get those intense specular highlights. I’m not sure quite what it is, but something about this kind of fabric always makes it look thin and tacky to me. Personally I’d prefer if it were made from leather, maybe even something with a texture in it, black crocodile or snake skin perhaps? Black milk snake anyone? Ah well, no perhaps not, it’s probably protected or something, but maybe it could be simulated in pressed leather.

There’s just something solid and structural about leather, and the stretch and drape of it is, to my mind, so much better than any man made alternative.

But! Having said all this however, I have to spell out that I don’t mean to put the jacket or Black Milk Clothing down in any way, far from it! And of course leather probably wouldn’t have given Mr. Lillis, the designer, that ultra shiny surface with it’s hard highlights, which I’m guessing is exactly what he was going for. Each to his own I say. After all, that is what makes fashion and art so exciting, the variety of it all:)

You should definitely check out the Too Many Tights Blog (Black Milk Clothing’s Blog) and there’s also now a Black Milk facebook page. Worth a look, he’s a genius; his clothes are really cool; and his models to die for 😉

bye for now,

x
